On a URL what does the suffix .org mean?
web addresses can have different suffixes - not sure what they are really called - such as .com, .net, and .org. What does .org mean? Someone told me they thought it meant that it was a non-profit organization. Can someone explain to me if a site with this suffix can be for profit or has anyother restrictions.
I do not believe that .org has anything to do with non-profit, solely. It is a URL ending, like any other. However, it should be noted that when I was learning about plagiarism in college and credible sources, that you can count on a URL ending in .org to be more credible. Hope it helps!
.org means it is a site for organizations .
adds:
.com -commercial
.gov - government site
.net -network site
.edu - educational site
Organization. Wow, it says my answer is too short. Make it longer. Ok:
O R G A N I Z A T I O N
Usually an organization buys a website ending in org, but I have seen a few families do the same thing when purchasing one for a blog about their travels. Thus, you might want to do a bit of research before deciding whether a website is legitimate, and gov is probably a bit so than many org ones.
.ORG stands for ORGANIZATION. Just like .GOV stands for Government establishments.

Is ther a benefit to appending either "today" or "now" (or something else) to a URL name to get a .com?
