When we take time to closely analyze the world around us, we will often find ourselves astonished, fascinated and mesmerized at what we discover. But all too often, the world around us moves much too quickly for us to take the time to really study our subject in great detail. This is where macrophotography comes in. Macrophotography gives us the opportunity to view the world around us both at our leisure and in much greater detail.

In the series of photographs below, take time to notice the amazing textures and colors.

What is macrophotography? thefreedictionary.com tells us that “macro” means of great size or large. It further explains "macro" to mean, large in scope or extent, and large-scale. This simple definition helps us understand macrophotography as capturing images that are life-sized or greater. Macrophotography provides us with a much more detailed view of our subject, while also providing us the time to discover all the wonderful textures, color variations, and small details that you would not otherwise be able to see.

Click on the photo at the right and look at all the wonderful details that you are able to view at your leisure and in the comfort of your own chair. It is easy to imagine this scene being the environment where you might actually find a woodland fairy.

This set of photographs provides a wide array of textures and colors for your viewing pleasure.

Pollen, soft and hard textures, eyes and flesh are elements that astonish and amaze when enhanced through the use of macrophotography.

Click on the picture of the puff ball above, and look at all the wonderful hard and soft textures that are evident in this picture. The empty holes on the head of the flower are absolutely amazing.

So, what is macrophotography? Macrophotography is used to create an image that is larger than life. It is able to present a subject with more detail than the human eye is able to perceive. It can take a simple bug and allow you to see the reflections in its eyes or the hair on its body - something that you would not be able to see with the naked eye.

Macrophotography is fascinating and fun!

I hope you have enjoyed this journey through macrophotography and will join me again:

Hello, eddiecarrara! I like to take photos also, but I lost most on a computer that crashed. I know, I know... should have backed them up. Always too busy to take the time... now I know why I will take the time.

Here's hoping that you get your new camera for Christmas!

I'll put in a good word for you with Santa! LOL
